General District Court

The Stafford General District Court (GDC) is limited to

  • traffic
  • misdemeanors
  • civil cases under $25,000

General District Court – Points to know:

  • they do not keep detailed records of proceedings
  • less formal
  • do not conduct jury trials
  • decided by judge
  • civil cases generally cannot provide remedies in equity

The General District Court three divisions

  • Civil – claims up to $25,000. This includes debts, rent, contracts, personal injury.

  • Criminal – from minor violations to felony hearings.

  • Traffic – moving and non-moving (including Stafford reckless driving)
