Personal Statement by Brent Vincenzes:

Vincenzes Criminal Law

Brenton D. Vincenzes

Practicing Criminal Law as a defense attorney is what I love to do; “Northern Virginia” is where I love being; the underdog is who I love to help.

I believe in taking a personal approach. A better word for “client,” is “friend.” And a better term for, “attorney,” at least at my firm, is “trusted adviser, zealous advocate, empathetic champion.”

Criminal lawyers, I believe, must strive to not only improve the client’s legal position and liberty interests, but also, endeavor to guide, stand-behind, motivate, and support them. Criminal lawyers who are doing it the right way have no problem striving for these things, from the first meeting  all the way through to the other side when the legal issue is a distant memory fading fast in the rear-view mirror.

Community Ties

I was born at INOVA Fairfax Hospital and have lived in the Commonwealth of Virginia my entire life.

While I enjoy visiting and serving professionally in nearby counties and cities, Fairfax County has my heart, and it is where I intend to remain.

I am a community leader in Fairfax. I am fortunate to have the opportunity and ability to serve each Saturday as a mentor and role model to 5th and 6th grade boys and girls at Fairfax Community, and similarly, when I  speak to troubled youths at Fairfax County Public Schools’  “Alcohol and Other Drugs Program.”

My Road

Unlike some other criminal attorneys in Virginia, I was never a prosecutor. Prosecuting people never crossed my mind as something I would be comfortable with. But that’s just me.

I gained my initial experience working alongside a General District Court Judge while attending Regent Law, and was able to watch the finest litigators in the Commonwealth day in and day out. That experience led to a landmark opportunity:  editing and revising portions of the the General District Court Benchbook — the book judges use in court to help them make decisions and rulings.  I spent years learning Virginia law, procedure, and courtroom strategies while working for years for two different criminal law practices in Norfolk and Virginia Beach, and a third firm in Fairfax, Virginia.

My Criminal Law Firm

Since we opened our doors we have served hundreds of clients and I have made hundreds of friends. 2014 was a breakout year, having received three (3) major awards:

  • National Trial Lawyers: Top 100 Trial Lawyers
  • National Trial Lawyers: Top 40 Under 40
  • “10 Best” Client Satisfaction Award from the American Institute for Criminal Law Attorneys

There is no secret formula to being a great Virginia defense attorney. If you care about your clients, you will do well. “Caring,” as a defense attorney, means going an extra mile in order to stay one step ahead of the prosecutor, because that one step may be what wins the case; it means staying up late if necessary, to talk to a nervous or distraught client; and it means  always staying hungry for your clients…rolling the sleeves up to do the “dirty work,” whether it be a hands-on investigation, legal research and writing, engineering a creative solution to a tricky problem, or developing a new and innovative defense theory.

If you become a client of mine, our relationship will be founded on trust, empathy, confidence, compassion, communication, and cooperation.

None of the awards I or my firm has received this year would have been possible without my clients. Thank you.
